Where did it go wrong? That's the question that many couples ask themselves about their marriage relationship. You can probably point to some specific incidents that in your opinion led to the current state of affairs. For that matter your spouse can in all likelihood do the same.
The thing is how you got where you are in the marriage relationship is neither here nor there. What you want now is a way to fix the relationship. It may not return to the days when it was all one big lovefest but you can repair the damage and come out stronger than ever.
1. In It Together
No matter what happens, you and your spouse come first. If your marriage relationship is ever to get better acknowledge that only the two of you can work it out. Professional counselors can be a great help but in the final analysis they can only do so much. There is no magic formula but if the two of you accept the fact that you are in it together and really do want to fix the relationship then there is no reason why you cannot.
2. Stay Connected
When a marriage relationship is on the rocks both parties have a tendency to withdraw from each other. One spouse goes to their little cubby hole the other takes refuge somewhere else. It's not surprising that the conversations then become quite strained which leads to a further breakdown.
Stay connected by finding every reason possible to be around each other. If your spouse goes to their little place of solitude visit them right there. And do it on a consistent basis. Give them a hug wherever and whenever you can. Take a strong interest in their interest and be there to support them.
3. Let's Get Away From It All
Get up, go to work, come home, try to take care of personal business, go to bed, get up rinse and repeat. The routine can tale a toll on every marriage relationship but you have to do what you have to do. Break the monotony by having a romantic getaway. It doesn't have to be someplace expensive. In fact it does not have to cost much of anything. Just pick a day where the two of you hop in the car and go. Or both of you take a day off, shut off the phones and give yourselves a day of nothing but romance. Let the world wait for awhile.
