Is Your Package Stuck In Transit?
When you check the status of your shipment online
, it is usually pretty straight forward as to what is going on with your package. "Delivered" is pretty self explanatory, as is "waiting for transfer". However, "Stuck in transit" is a status which conjures up some unpleasant images for many people shipping with a Phoenix delivery service. Part of the problem is that it is so ambiguous, so it is difficult to understand exactly what might be going on with your shipment.
When a package has become in transit, it means that it has not made any further progress towards its destination. A courier company generally uses this as a kind of catch all status for events which have occurred which are causing a delay, but not for those which mean that something has happened which is going to prevent the delivery from being completed. This is often the first worry that customers have, however, this typically means the delivery will still be completed, just later than originally anticipated or quoted.
There are a lot of different things that can cause packages to become labeled with this status in those electronic status update systems. Flat tires or minor vehicle accidents are quite common reasons for this to happen. These usually only take the vehicle out of commission for a short time, however, GPS tracking means that customers will quickly see the package is not moving so they usually change the status, even in minor events like these. Weather can also cause a package to become stuck in transit, although if a storm is severe enough, that can represent a more major time delay.
Usually, it's not worth calling your courier company to bother them every time you see this status come up on a delivery. There are a lot of deliveries which become stuck in transit for a short time, and then carry on with no difficulties whatsoever, some even arriving on time. Generally speaking, its better to wait a few hours and see if the status changes. If it is still the same, then you may need to contact the courier via phone or email to see if they can provide a revised delivery estimate for you to give to your clients.
Stuck in transit typically does not mean that your package has been damaged, held in customs, or lost. These usually mean your package has become undeliverable.
