Charges dropped in 'New Moon' incident. Thing goes like this:

Tumpach was arrested Nov. 28 in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont and faced a felony charge of illegally copying the film. Fortunately, Charges have been dropped against this 22-year-old Chicago woman. Cook County prosecutors on Friday announced in court that they won't pursue charges against Samantha Tumpach. This woman had about three minutes of "New Moon" on her digital camera. Tumpach has said she was taping her sister's birthday party and wasn't trying to record the movie. The film's director, Chris Weitz, came to Tumpach's defense. He told the Chicago Sun-Times there's a difference between trying to protect a copyright and prosecuting someone who didn't mean to commit video piracy.

This thing never should have started in the first place, of course. When did we start paying taxes to finance storm troopers for the movie/music industry? The studio's cave is obviously meant to cover their asses from the civil suit she threatened. I hope she goes through with it anyhow, and includes our useless prosecutors.

Cook County Prosecutor Anita Alvarez was clearly a big mistake all around. Most people may hope voters rectify that in the next election if not sooner.
