The screen brightness is also adjustable so that you can see what you are shooting when taking pictures at night or in the dark. The lens length on this camera is an adjustable 36 to 432mm. This allows you to have a standard lens or a telephoto lens with just a push of a button. Unlike most cameras at this price, the flash is not an auto open. If you forget, then, well, there is simply no flash end of story. The older model of Canon camera did have the auto flash and they should have kept it this way. That being said, there is a nice flash feature. The back panel is full of buttons that could mean a lot of different things. The user's manual might be the average person's best friend for a while. That being said, the menu setup when you first start the camera is quiet simple to set even if the other features will take time to learn. The Canon PowerShot S2 IS takes 4 AA batteries to power. It comes with 4 alkaline batteries which will last a little while. It is suggested that you purchase rechargeable batteries especially since the NiMH batteries last longer than the alkaline. This camera, where it might be more difficult to learn all the bells and whistles, has plenty of them and can be easily used by anyone if all they want to do is point and shoot.
