Basilica Cistern
A romantic attraction, Basilica Cistern shows a way, how in earlier times drinking water was drawn from Thrace to Istanbul which fascinates people coming here. It was constructed in the 6th century and lights and music was fitted in the cistern that used to store water. Supporting the ceiling, there are 336 ceilings. The upside down face of Medusa is also a unique sight to behold forming the bottom of one column.
Aya Sofya
Aya Sofya was earlier a church that turned into a mosque from church and later turned into a museum. The place is extraordinary spacious and is a sixth-century Byzantine masterpiece from the times of Emperor Justinian. In the galleries of the building, one can see the glittering mosaics. After it became a museum from the church, a soup kitchen was added to the building in which the finest carpets of the city are going to be displayed.
Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hamam
The city has several Ottoman bathhouses that are quite magnificent and includes Galatasaray, emberlita,Slemaniye and Caalolu. The visitors were allowed to try these steamy baths in 2011 from the time of 16th-century Ayasofya Hrrem Sultan Hamam. It is believed that these baths were designed by the scheming wife of Suleiman, Roxelana. After visiting this place, one can easily visualize the royal bath taken by the Suleiman of those times besides having a little bit of relaxation with royal massage.
Topkapi Palace
Topkapi Palace is quite popular among visiting tourists as this place has been a home to many generations of Sultans who used to reside here along with their wives. The wives used to stay closeted in harem. Lush green courtyards and picturesque locations make the palace mesmerizing and visitors get lost in the visions of ancient times. There are tiled rooms as well that surrounds the Turkish Bath in the secretive harem.
Blue Mosque
From a distance one can see the impressive silhouette of the Blue Mosque. Built in 17th century, this mosque has six minarets and since the walls are papered with Iznik tiles, the mosque offers a blue hue.
