It Tender For One Stop Shops For Ageing

The Department of Health and Ageing has released a Tender seeking core ICT capabilities to support One Stop Shops

. In the 2010 Budget the Australian Federal Government announced the establishment of a network of One Stop Shops to create a single, identified entry point for clients and their carers into the aged care system. One Stop Shops will offer information and assessment services as well as links to appropriate aged and community care providers.

Over four years, the Australian Government will spend $36.8 million to set up one-stop shops for aged care information and assessment. One-stop shops will be linked to Local Hospital Networks and will provide clients and their carers with:

information on the full range of community and residential aged care services, and carer support services

assistance in assessing options and filling out forms, such as those for income assessment

centralised intake assessment, including eligibility assessment for basic maintenance and support services and a more detailed eligibility assessment for subsidised aged care services

referral to basic maintenance and support services

access to a capacity database and care coordination service to enable the public to find service providers who have the aged care services available to meet their assessed care needs.

To support the implementation of this measure, the Department Of Health and Ageing is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitable providers for the development of expected core ICT capabilities and business activities which are: Information Provision, Intake and Assessment, Care Co-Ordination, Referrals, and Reviews.

In addition to this tender the Depart of Health and Ageing has announced that from 1 July 2011 patients in remote, regional and outer metropolitan Australia will have better access to specialists through new investments in telehealth consultations via the internet.

The Australian Governments telehealth investment will provide patients with access to electronic consultations. With twice as many specialists per capita in major cities compared to regional and remote areas, this investment will help to reduce barriers to specialist medical services for patients.

These telehealth investments form part of the Government's health reform agenda - the most significant since the introduction of Medicare. These include delivering over 1,300 new sub acute beds, support for 4,600 nurses in GP practices, after hours GP services and personally controlled electronic health records.

The Tender for ICT core capabilities for One-Stop Shops closed on the 15th December 2010.
