It's Very Well Knowing the Foods Which Lower Cholesterol But What About the Sneaky Ones That Don't
It's a cruel ironic world we inhabit and what better evidence of this then the painful fact that the foods which taste so good to us are so often so bad. But why worry about a diet consisting of all those delicious treats that our doctors so often use to put the fear into us. Who on earth has ever really given two brass farthings about their cholesterol levels? Well, if that person is you then maybe it's time you took a good look at yourself again. High cholesterol can kill, it's a fact and more and more people are receiving treatment for heart ailments as a result of high cholesterol than ever before. Thankfully, there is information aplenty on the internet and in bookshops about foods which lower cholesterol and how best to combat that premature heart attack. However, I think that occasionally it is extremely important to remind you of the foods that have done the damage in the first place. This vital information is often dismissed, I mean who really cares right? But unless you plan to exist on a diet wholly consisting of nuts, vegetables, fish and soluble fibre for the rest of your life you not only need to be reminded of the foods which lower cholesterol but those that raised it in the first place.
Saturated Fats.
I hate this one being on my list, which is why I have covered it first. This way you will digest the information early and won't forget it. Not only does butter taste great but it goes with just about everything. Before you know it, that healthy meal consisting of jacket potato, green vegetables and lean chicken breast has been laced with butter; delicious but cholesterol laden. Butter is extremely high in saturated fats (just put it in the fridge and see it harden as irrefutable proof) and must be removed from your diet immediately; it is definitely not one of those foods which lower cholesterol. As a little aside; watch out if you like to dine out at nice restaurants as your meals will have undoubtedly been laced with this artery clogging gem.
Any Fatty Meat.
Enjoy a Sunday Roast every week? Me too, but the reason it tastes so good is due to the fat juices soaking into the joint. Pork, lamb and beef are the greatest villains and unfortunately they are the tastiest (in my opinion anyway). Now I'm not going to suggest you refrain from your favourite Sunday roast, however you must be aware that fatty meats are another huge supplier of saturated fats and a real cholesterol raiser. Try and reduce the fat content of the side dishes that you provide with your meal, which usually come highly laced with fat and butter as well, to limit the damage if you simply can't stop eating this type of meat. If you are a fan of processed meats as well, remember that these foods are also heftily laced with saturated fats.
These are the big two in my book but there are a plethora of others that sit proudly on the list of foods which are bad for your cholesterol levels. Chicken skin, organ meats and deep fried foods can never be left of this list. They don't sit pride of place at the top of the list simply because they are a little more of an acquired taste. Chicken is a great lean meat, which should form part of your cholesterol lowering diet but don't be tempted by its delicious but deadly exterior.
Products of full fat milk, including ice cream, cheese and anything else with cream in are to be avoided. I would never advocate drinking completely fat free milk as that would really take the enjoyment out of your morning cereal but at least replace your full fat for half fat or less and you'll be cutting out a large percentage of your daily cholesterol intake.
This list is evidently not exhaustive. However, I hope it has served as a reminder for you that those foods which lower cholesterol are just as important as knowing as the foods which raised your cholesterol to dangerous levels in the first place.
