Italian Serie A - Inter defeats Palermo 2-1 and tops the Italian league

FC Internazionale, playing away, defeated Palermo 2-1 in an exciting game in what was the third week of the Italian Serie A Championship.

Inter, the defending champion, made it to the Renzo Barbera Stadium with a high dose of stamina. The beginning of the game was very well balanced with good plays coming from both sides.

As the game evolved, both Inter and Palermo were taking more risk, moving their offensive lines forward. Both teams were trying to play cleverly in the midfield and trying to open up spaces to shot on goal. This offensive approach made the game much more interesting.

It was two midfielders who were taking control over the game with their good passes and individual plays. Dejan Stamkovic for Inter and Javier Pastore for Palermo, were putting out an amazing show of talent and precision.

Both teams kept on pushing on the offensive end. On one end there was the experienced Argentinean Diego Milito who kept on trying to score for Inter, while Abel Hernandez had brought his A-game for Palermo.

In the mist of a counterattack, Palermo completed a fast-paced play on the side. The local captain, Fabrizio Micoli, was able to take a good shot on goal that Julio Cesar was able to ricochet off his body, but the ball bounced back to Josip Ilicic. Without missing a beat, Ilicic was able to kick the ball back to open up the score 28 minutes into the match.

After this goal and until the end of the first half, both teams tried to find a way to score. Both teams had a couple of good opportunities to even the score, but failed to complete their chances.

Palermo began the second half trying to seize control of the game with a series of direct shots on the opposing goal. As the game kept evolving, the match became a bit boring, because Milito and Hernandez were missing good opportunities to score and both teams were making many mistakes.

Rafael Benitez, Inter's coach tried to change the status of the team by making several technical changes. In this variation, Benitez brought in Samuel Eto'o, who responded by giving the best he had to his team.

Eto'o shot a ball that hit against Palermo's goal post. A few minutes later he retrieved from the ball from a defender and in the midst of well-finished play tied the score at 62 minutes.

Palermo players felt affected by this goal, then rushed to get his second goal. They had the opportunity to do so, but their poor aim would not let them. Julius Caesar splendidly blocked the few shots on goal that Palermo could complete.

When the game reached 70 minutes, Eto'o marked the second goal with which Inter now occupies the first place in the Italian League.
