There is an ecological park on the hilly terrain of the foothills of the Sierra Madre a short driving distance from Zihuatanejo. It contains over 400 species of plants. Every October, you may decide to watch local boating and rafting enthusiasts participate in the San Jeronimito River Regatta near the town of Petatlan located just south of Ixtapa. At the end of January, if you are there, there is the charity Zihuatanejo Sail. The Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival takes place in March. On the weekend of the first week of May, the town hosts an International Sailfish Tournament.

Transport options

If you need one, there is U. S. Consul based in Zihuatanejo. If you need cash you have several options. One is the ATM. ATM locations are situated in Ixtapa, both downtown Zihuatanejo and in the town supermarket and at the airport. They dispense pesos and tend to run out of cash on the weekends and holidays. Travellers checks are accepted generally. A money exchange house is also here; but, the banks tend to offer better exchange rates. Using your credit or debit card is also your choice.

The Ixtapa Zihuatanejo International Airport is about 30 minutes from the Ixtapa resorts. In the tourist season, you may be able to find direct flights from certain U. S. Locations. Otherwise, fly into Mexico City and catch a flight from there. The bus transport option from Mexico City or driving by renting a car from there can be your choice. There are highly comfortable buses available, such as those run by Estrella de Oro or Estrella Blanca. On the highway your route is via the Autopista Del Sol or Autopista Siglo XXI from Mexico City. Travel time is around eight hours. Do avail of the guidance provided by your resort to secure accurate directions.
