So, the next part of the story, our ongoing history of the rail transport industry and freight transport industry, is where things really start to get interesting. We've been dealing with ancient history until now (well, maybe not ancient history, but they certainly haven't been modern developments). In this next part of the story the drama turns up a notch and things go from a steady rumble to an all out gallop as the steam engine is incorporated into rail cars and the first railway is born.

The story goes something like this; it was a foggy day in England, the year was 1821 and the seeds of the freight transport industry and the rail transport industry were beginning to emerge from the nutrient rich soil that was the inventive and advancing atmosphere of the industrial revolution. A man named Julius Griffiths, a soon to be hero in the freight transport hall of fame, was going about his business like every other day (his daily routine being of no small consequence to the world of freight transport and rail transport). As an inventor, he was in the process of building upon the foundations of others who had come before him, ordaining the marriage of the newly developed steam engine and the much used and long proven horse drawn carriage. This monumental marriage was the first patented passenger road locomotivethe real beginning of rail transport and freight transport. This was simultaneously one of the first cars and first trains. This was a seed that would bear forth freight transport fruits like the heavy haul industry, ltl trucking, flatbed trucking, and rail transport. This day that would alter the course of history for the rest of time. While these early versions of rail transport locomotives were only useful on very flat surfaces, they were none the less a crucial step in the creation of the industries that are the life blood of JB Transport and other freight hauling and moving companies.
