Jack Johnson's appeal to the world's beach bums may have started long before he became a widely acclaimed musician. Before he even picked up the guitar Johnson handled a surfboard, eager to become a master of the waves. He was well on his way to achieving this when an accident cut his surf dreams short. He found comfort in other creative endeavors like filmmaking and songwriting, both of these "hobbies" which turned him into an international sensation.

He released his debut album Brushfire Fairytales in 2001, a magical little collection of upbeat tunes that included hits like "Flake," "Bubble Toes," "Fortunate Fool" and "It's All Understood."It was a huge success, garnering attention from both fans and critics and ushering in an era of mellow music - a perfect accompaniment to a barbeque at the beach.

Next up for Johnson was On and On. It was another album that featured sunny surf vibes and meaningful lyrics as did his next release, called In Between Dreams. Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George was actually Johnson's first album to hit the number one spot on the charts. 2008's Sleep through the Static reflected a much more somber tone as Johnson struggled with personal loss. Nevertheless it went platinum within five weeks and he embarked on an extensive tour of Europe that summer, prompting the release of the 2009 CD/DVD En Concert.
