Jaden Smith A Rising Star

I just finished seeing the movie The Karate Kid

, and I give you The Karate Kid movie review. This one was a summer surprise for me, it was actually good. Jaden Smith is a surprisingly good actor. This movie will remind you of the original Karate Kid, but it does have a few modern changes. This movie has character that are memorable, a nice plot, and a good ending. This does have spoilers.

The plot starts with Jaden Smith's character, Troy, and Taraji P. Henson, his mother, moving to China because of a career opportunity. Troy is desperately trying to adapt to a new culture and language, but not exactly doing well at it. Even as he tries to make friends and gradually develops a crush, he is attacked by an admirer of his crush that also knows how to fight. After his public humiliation Troy is trained by Jackie Chan, playing the Mr. Miyagi character. Although if you have seen the original you can probably guess the outline of the plot, still there are a lot of surprises plus you'll learn a few Chinese phrases.

You can't help but remember the original characters based off the new ones. Troy is simply an average kid that you can't help but like because of the situation is placed in. He wants to just be accepted, but he's constantly in fear from all the bullying he receives. Taraji P. Henson is an excellent mother, and she is constantly tell him to "pick up his jacket" but she always there for love and support. Jackie Chan does much more than comedy in this movie, he actually exposes his vulnerable side by crying. The characters were outstanding in this movie.

I won't give away the last move that Troy does in the end once he has entered the tournament, but just know it is great. This movie really showcases the bond between mother and child and the bond between master and student. The only thing that made me a little sad about the ending was the masters didn't fight, but I guess that was simply one of the changes they were going for.

Overall this movie is worth seeing. This movie is one that the whole family can enjoy, the girls get a love story and the boys get violence. And the movie is worth watch if nothing more than the tournament at the end, those kids are dangerous. This movie is filled with Chinese culture that is rich and worth looking at, and it reveals it from a side that is usually not shown. This movie is definitely a 5 out of 5.
