Nestled approximately 50 kilometers away from the cultural centre of Udaipur is the picturesque village of Jagat. Popularly known as the Khajuraho of Rajasthan', Jagat is famous for being home to the historic Jagat Temple which is locally known as the Ambika Mata Temple. Dating back to the Pratihara period in the 10th century, the temple is popular for its outstanding architecture, intricate artwork and detailed sculptures. The elevated altar features a large image of the idol Ambika who is also known as Durga. From the four corners of the altar, a tower rises up which contains detailed motifs. The doorways to the temple and its altar comprises of exquisite carvings that are full of intricate details and designs. The artistically designed porch that leads to the entrance of the building is sheltered by an eave.

The prayer hall known as the mandapa is an artistic creation in itself. The ceiling of the hall is engraved with lovely patterns and figures, whilst its windows feature ornamented carved panels. There are various ancient looking medallions, motifs, and figurative panels shielded under elegantly designed alcoves that adorn the Jagat Temple and its walls. Some of these depict ancient mythological stories that are deeply rooted in tradition and legend. Figurines of couples, holy people and musicians, of which some are sculpted in sensuous postures, decorate the interior of this historic shrine.
