Jaipur was founded in the year 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II as Indias first planned city. In 1876 the city was colored in the famous terracotta pink color to resemble the red sandstone architecture of the Mughals, on the direction of Maharaja Ram Sigh to welcome the royal guest Prince of Wales. The city continues to wear the pink color with great lan and is fondly referred to as the 'Pink City'.
