Jaipur, The Pink City Of India: Lets Get To Know About It
Jaipur is the capital and largest city of the Indian state Rajasthan
. It was founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II; the ruler of Amber. Jaipur is also known as the Pink City. Basically the Pink City label applies to the old walled quarter of the city. All the houses inside walled city are coloured with the unique pink rose colour. Besides this most of the heritage buildings are coloured in pink rose colour.
There is a story behind it. Once Maharaja Sawai Man Singh thought that his city should be coloured in one colour. So he got it painted in blue on all the walls, but it couldnt impress him. So he ordered to paint it pink and that time it was appreciated by most of the members of maha sabha. Later on Maraja ordered to paint all the walls of jaipur in pink and because of this Jaipur has the pink colour on all walls by now.
First Planned City of India:
Population of this city is near about 32 Lakh. This is also the first planned city ever made in India. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II had initially Amber (city) as his capital. Growing population and shortage of water made him thinking about shifting his Capital to another place. King gathered lots of knowledge before making the layout of the Jaipur City. He appointed Vidyadar Bhattacharya (a master town planner) for this work. Jaipur is developed on the principles of Vastu Shastra and similar classical dissertation. Because of this very structure of Jaipur resembles to the taste of the Rajputs and the Royal families.
There are several things to be noticed that show Jaipur was best planned city of India ever.
1.Near about all the streets are at 90 degree angles.
2.All the streets are opened into the main roads leading to gates.
3.The construction of Jaipur city was started from kaipur gate.
4.Furthermore, other gates are made like;
-Chandpole Gate that opens into the main road Chandpole Bazaar to Choti Chaupad.
-Ajmeri Gate that opens into Kishanpole Bazaar to Chhoti Chaupar.
-New Gate that opens into Chauara Rasta (widest 100 ft road in the city).
-Ghat Gate that opens into Ramganj Bazaar.
-Ganga Pol that opens into Badi Chapuar to Ramganj Bzaar and Ganesh Temple.
5.There you can see a mixed architectural of Hindu and Mughal styles. For example; chaupars and chhatris are the form of Hindu architecture and the arches and artistic painting of flowers in white reflects the Mughal architecture.
6.The ultimate feature of this architecture is, use of rose pink colour which was unique in the world. White colour is used with rose pink to paint all the buildings inside the all the gates. This colour tradition is being forwarded to the modern Jaipur too. At present, the entire boundary walls of the houses, on Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg and Tonk Road leading to the airport, are painted in the same colour.
You can easily imagine the brain used to develop this kind of well managed city in the terms of architecture. These are just few points except this there is a lot of interesting things. For example, the place here to visit are; Hawa Mahal, Amer, Kanak Vrindavan, Jantar Mantar, Sisodia Rani Garden, City Palace, Ishwar Lat, Jalmahal, Gaitor, Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort, Central Museum, Dolls Museum, Birla Planetarium, Galta, Moti Doongari, Laxmi Narayan Temple, Maharani Ki Chhatri, Vidhyadhar Garden, etc. Right now I am not going to elaborate the information about these places, but will let you know one by one in my upcoming articles.
