Jamaica Triumphs On Home Ground At World Travel Awards 2011
The prestigious World Travel Awards took place on Wednesday 19th October
, 2011 with the annual Caribbean & the Americas Gala Ceremony honouring the best of the best in the Caribbean at Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort & Private Island in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Leading tourism companies, organisations, experts, industry leaders and the global media arrived for a glittering event at the Sandals property, which offers some of the most luxurious accommodation and facilities available for discerning tourists taking Jamaica holidays.
Awards at the annual event went to St Lucia who won the title of Caribbeans Leading Honeymoon Destination, while Sir Richard Bransons Necker Island was voted as the Caribbean Leading Private Island.
The battle of the best Caribbean hotels and resorts was finally resolved with the Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic winning the coveted title over properties including Half Moon in Jamaica, Jumby Bay in Antigua, Sandy Lane in Barbados and Four Seasons Resort in Nevis.
Jamaica holidays proved their ongoing success as the tropical island was awarded as the Caribbeans Leading Destination for the sixth year in a row.
Jamaicas success did not stop there as the island nation was honoured as the Caribbeans Leading Cruise Destination, after the new cruise terminal in Falmouth opened earlier this year, as well as the Caribbeans Leading Tourist Board title following a 5.7 increase in the number of tourists taking holidays to Jamaica in the last year.
The Director of Tourism for Jamaica, John Lynch, said: We are honoured to be recognised as the Caribbeans Leading Destination.
Jamaica is committed to providing travellers with an unparalleled experience.
We all continue to develop our infrastructure and tourism product to ensure we maintain an edge in an increasingly competitive landscape.
The President, World Travel Awards, Graham Cooke, spoke of the regions resilience during the global recession.
He commented: The Caribbean is a textbook example of how the travel and tourism industry can serve an engine for growth, with the ability to steer the region out of one of the most challenging periods in global financial history.
It is during times of economic uncertainty that world-class brands come into their own, continuing to reinvent themselves and grow market share traits all shared by tonights World Travel Award winners.
He added: Jamaica in particular has proved its credentials as a world-class tourism brand, thanks to its unrivalled mix of paradise beaches, luxury resorts and warmth of welcome.
