The Recruitment and Employment Confederation's latest jobs outlook shows that in the short to medium term more businesses are using temporary workers, contractors in freelancers.

The figures indicate that 85% of employers surveyed indicated that they intend to maintain or increase the number of contractors that they deal with.

Danbro's Gerry Gregoire said; "we have witnessed cuts within both the public and private sector, and unemployment is likely to rise. However, businesses are actually turning to the flexible workforce as an alternative to employing workers on a permanent basis"

"In some cases, many businesses have actually made a percentage of their workforce redundant but then have taken them back on as contractors. Temporary work is definitely something for those out of work to consider. The government is encouraging those out of work to setup their own businesses with initiatives like the Enterprise Allowance, so it's a great time to get the support you need, even if it is a stepping stone onto other things."

Just six percent of employers indicated that they will be cutting the number of permanent staff over the next 3 months. Twenty six percent intend to increase their workforce over the next twelve months whilst the remaining 68% intend to keep their staffing levels the same.

Danbro recently launched a jobs board for their contractors, which is updated with the latest contractor job opportunities in the market. Alex Askew; Marketing Assistance at Danbro PAYE Umbrella Company explained; "We have a network of over 100 recruitment agencies feeding the latest jobs into our board. We have actually seen an increase in the amount of opportunities available to our contractors which is great news. Additionally our jobs board is entirely free for agencies to publish their job opportunities."
