Jobs From Import Limits

The lack of jobs is bringing concerned citizens into the streets, protesting without a clear understanding of the cause. We tend to blame our woes on everything and everybody else without taking responsibility for searching for the right answers. There are two simplistic answers that will allow us to keep face with our trade partners and return manufacturing jobs

back home where they belong, restoring economic stability. Leveling the playing field by using tariffs as discussed in the previous blog, is one way to create jobs. Another way is to place import limits on goods coming into our country.

At this point in our history, it becomes necessary for us to limit imports. We should not allow any company to import any more than 50% of what they are selling. The other 50% or more would have to be manufactured here at home. It may take a few years for our country to

return to manufacturing. It may be necessary to start at 30% of all products being manufactured here at home for two years, 40% for one year and finally 50% or more from then on. This is not to alienate other countries. However, along with tariffs we would soon build a level playing field creating real long-term jobs, stabilizing our economy. Our problem is not people willing to work, it is not enough work to keep our citizens, immigrants and illegal immigrants at work. If we stay the course we are on now, we will wind up a third world country. Remember, if we don't help ourselves, soon we will not be able to help others.

Create Manufacturing Jobs

Restore Economic Stability

Just think about what would happen in the next five years if 50% of what we bought came from manufacturers here at home. Investments would take off like a rocket. New manufacturing facilities would have to be built, causing construction to boom. New homes would be built and sold and existing homes would be sold, restoring the real estate market and increasing our home values. It's not just a dream. Reality never happens until someone comes up with real answers and acts on them. We can pull together and rebuild an economy with stability for the future.

Jobs are not the answer to everything but this is the first step to the answer for many of the economic questions we have in our country today. These simplistic answers are not in any way complete but unless we try we will be at this same place if not worse twenty or thirty years from now. This political blog is meant to start us thinking about real answers that we can come up with by having a conversation about real life questions.
