One of the positions that are not mentioned quite often when talking about the fashion

industry is working in a supervisory role at a warehouse or a distribution center. While it might not be a seen as a dramatic or prestigious position as of a fashion designer, it is still one of the most important roles in the fashion industry. In the absence of distribution centers, most of the large companies, like French Connection, Havaianas and Lipsy, will have to face major logistical difficulties in delivering their goods to the right place at the right time. The end result of that would be items not selling at the proper time, which means that the companies would not be able to make the profit they expected. This major problem, even for the larger brand names in the fashion industry such as Havaianas, French Connection and Lipsy.

Working at a supervisory role in a distribution center or a warehouse means having to manage both goods and associates. You have to make sure that the deadlines are met, and that they are met in the most effective way possible. You will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and various other important standards within the facility. In addition, you might also be responsible for payroll. While managerial experience, basic computer knowledge (MS Excel & Word), and expertise of industrial engineering are important, the main requirement to be successful at a supervisory role in a warehouse will be good communication and people skills. In case if you are working for a big company, like Lipsy, Havaianas or French Connection, you will have to work with a large number of people from different backgrounds and different cultures. So having good people skills is a must to succeed as a supervisor in a warehouse.

In essence, working at a supervisory role means that you will be responsible for making sure that every one of the items in the distribution center get into and out from the warehouse by the corresponding deadlines. You must manage the staff of the warehouse and must be good at dividing the workload among them appropriately.
