People are eating out at restaurants in record numbers today

. They tend to live busy lives that do not allow for them to fix their meals at home. As such, families often eat out at their favorite eateries several times a week. To keep these businesses running, managers of these establishments hire a variety of workers.

Depending on the type of restaurant, they might hire waiters and waitresses. Sit-down establishments routinely include these workers. The wait staff must make sure that the guests at the staff's assigned tables have silverware, enough to drink, and appetizers if this starter course is ordered. They also clear away dirty dishes from the tables.

The wait staff is assisted in clearing tables by bus boys. Bus boys can be both men and women; however, their primary duty is to remove the dirty flatware, dishes, and glasses and take them back to the kitchen for cleaning. As soon as the dishes are cleaned, they are reused again for new customers.

When customers are done and their plates come back to the kitchen, the dishwashing staff scrapes away the leftovers and places the dishes in a commercial dishwasher. The dishwasher cleans the dishes at a very high temperature and treats them with soap and bleach. It rinses them in the same quick manner, allowing the dishwashers to remove them and place them in draining wracks for the cooks.

When a restaurant serves alcohol, it must have bartenders on hire. A bartender knows how to mix alcoholic drinks to the right potency. That individual also might be responsible for making sure that a patron is of legal age to drink. Sometimes these individuals also draw soft drinks and fruit juices for people who order non-alcoholic beverages.

Managers round out the people who frequently work at restaurants. The managers make sure that everyone is doing their jobs and that patrons are happy. They direct employees who may need a break or those who are coming on to their shifts for the day. They also address customer concerns about the food and service. All of these workers in an establishment have roles that help the business function.
