become an electrician!
The career of an electrician is grouped among trades such as that of the locksmith, mechanic and plumber. An electrician is one of the most important trades for any house owner. He is required when the house is being built and he will be required, thereafter, for routine maintenance and any kind of repair work involving a domestic gadget that will invariably run on power. So, if you are an electrician, you will never run short of a job all through your life. You will deal with either the installation or repair of the wiring or one of the numerous machines. You may opt for specialisation in one of the sectors that are commercial, residential or industrial.
The entry requirements for
electrician training will usually require at least a grade A-C in English, Maths and Science at the GCSE level. Training courses could involve anything from a 1 day course in burglar alarm wiring to a two year part time City and Guilds Electrical and Electronic Servicing NVQ. There are training courses run by both private companies and colleges that run day release courses. Privately run courses have flexibility and are more suited for you if you are over 24, while a college course might be better for a school leaver.
Once you have completed the course, you will need some hands on training after which you can apply for
electrician jobs. There are several options for you and you may opt for taking up domestic or commercial work. You may want to be independent or take up jobs on contract. One thing is for sure, you will never be at the end of your wits looking for work.
