Joint Pain Symptoms
Joint pain is the sensation of discomfort, inflammation
, soreness, achiness, or stiffness in a joint or joints of the body. Joints are defined as the spaces or areas where two or more bones meet. Joint pain is a symptom of different types of mild to serious diseases, disorders and conditions. It can result from infection, trauma, malignancy, autoimmune diseases, and other abnormal processes.
The word Arthralgia is thus used only when the condition is non-inflammatory and it is commonly called as "arthritis" when inflammatory. Joint pain has many causes depending on the condition of the patient. The causes are both diagnosed whether non-inflammatory or inflammatory or whether it was caused by infection or vaccinations.
Depending on the cause it is either a short-term one that disappear quickly such as when joint pain occurs after lying down for an extended period of time then resolves after moving around or it can also occur suddenly and severely like what happens in a shoulder dislocation. It is also possible for it to be chronic and ongoing over long periods of time due to osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
Traumatic conditions including ligament sprains, joint separation, contusions, sports injuries and dislocations can also lead to joint pain while other traumatic injuries that can cause it include tennis elbow, swimmer's shoulder, torn cartilage torn ligaments and sprained ankle. Chronic degenerative conditions that include osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis also known to be an autoimmune disorder also cause joint pain. Infectious diseases and conditions can cause joint pain too which include septic arthritis and rheumatic fever.
It often occurs in conjunction with other symptoms which vary depending on the underlying disease, disorder or condition. Other symptoms can include swelling or edema of the joint, inflammation and redness, and fever. Complications of joint pain can be progressive and vary depending on the underlying cause.
These are only few illnesses that cause joint pain. Other causes of joint pain can be: 1. Fracture or broken bone. It's a break in or cartilage and is usually the result of trauma. It can also be caused by an acquired bone disease such as osteoporosis. 2. Sprain is an injury caused by trauma or accident. It's when the ligaments are stretched or has a tear causing pain to the joints and bones. 3. Tendinitis which can occur as a result of an injury. It's an inflammation of a tendon such as tendons around the shoulder or elbow. 4. Cartilages tear as a result from injury or trauma. It's when the firm, rubbery tissue that protects bones at joints has a tear causing inflammation to the muscles and bones.
Treatment for such illnesses, diseases and injuries causing joint pain depends on the diagnosis and the patient's case. Basic or first aid treatment can be applied for minor cases, however, severe illnesses or injuries causing joint pain can lead to surgery. It's best to consult a doctor on treating complex joint pain or complicated conditions.
