Joint Ventures - "referrals On Steroids"
Imagine attending a gala event where 1000 of your "ideal" prospects were also in attendance
. Now, envision the host of the event standing up to address the crowd, and much to your surprise, she calls you up on stage! She begins to sing your praises in front of the entire group. You notice the faces in the crowd begin to look at you differently. You've become a celebrity. By the time you walk off stage, people are rushing up to you, handing you their business cards, excited to meet you.
Sound crazy? This is exactly what can happen when you leverage the power of joint ventures. A joint venture is nothing more than the owner or leader of a business who has a trusted following "singing your praises" to that following, often in exchange for a commission. It's one of the most overlooked opportunities in business, but anyone can do it" and it can be a POWDERKEG of sales" if done correctly.
So how would you do a joint venture as a spa owner? Well, first of all, think - "who is your target market?" Say it's professional women, between the ages of 30-55. What other business in town would serve that same target market? How about a fitness center? A jewelry store?
Health food store? Yoga studio? If you put your mind to it, you could probably come up with a list of 100 different types of businesses with the same clientele! But the fact is, you really only want to focus on those you think would have a mailing list of their current clients. This is key.
Next, approach them with a simple arrangement. It could be you simply "trade referrals", meaning you'll promote their service to your clients, and vice versa. Another way is to offer to pay for a promotion to go out to their list written from their perspective, (called and "endorsed mailing"), where they basically talk about how wonderful you are, and how you've been kind enough to give a special deal only to their customers.
Why does this work so well? It goes back to the dating analogy I used earlier. People are much more apt to believe someone they know, as opposed to someone they don't.
Or think of it this way ... what's more "believable": a flyer than comes in the mail "uninvited" from a spa pushing their products and services - or a letter from the owner of the gym you belong to, saying "I'm just writing to let you know that I have personally had the most wonderful, healing massages from Sara at Tranquil Moments Spa. I think she's the best in the city. And she's been so kind to offer a members-only special to the members of our fitness center..."
See the difference? Start working on joint ventures. They'll pay off.
