Joker Hindi Movie Review - Akshay Kumar & Sonakshi Sinha In Joker
Joker is a Hindi comedy/drama movie directed by Shirish Kunder
. The film stars Akshay Kumar opposite Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. Joker is the second film in which Sonakshi Sinha is paired opposite Akshay Kumar after super hit movie Rowdy Rathore.

Joker is Shirish Kunders second directorial venture after Jaan-e-Mann and Akshay Kumars 100th movie.
So, what are the better things about this fantasy ride? - Short length, cinematography and satisfactory VFX. But despite the short length the film loses pace just before the climax. Director Shirish Kunder definitely deserves a pat on his back for thinking of this 'unique' subject but a half-cooked execution, soul-less story and average acting has spoiled it for him. Dialogues are regular and comedy is sprinkled here and there.
As the story unfolds, you realize that Shirish has made this film for his kids and the other kids of India. He has even named the heroine of the film, Diva, which is also his daughters name. So, selectively entertaining, comic in parts but illogical and unbelievable on the whole Joker falls somewhere between sci-fi and kiddie flick.
Coming to the story - Why a film that has been promoted by aliens is named Joker and not Aliens or alike? Thats because just like a Joker, in the pack of cards, it is the story of a village called Paglapur that is very much a part of India but doesnt belong to any state as it doesnt feature on Indias map. We told you theres unbelievable stuff! Paglapur is Paglapur because it houses countrys biggest mental asylum and hence the inmates are nothing but normal. From a man who believes that hes a king to Lord Fockland, grandson of a British official and a man who talks gibberish (Shreyas Talpade) its filled with muddle heads.
Agastya (Akshay Kumar), an exceptional resident of Paglapur surprisingly manages to become a NASA scientist, who is currently building a transreciever for communicating with the aliens.(more unbelievable stuff). Circumstances bring him back to Paglapur with his girlfriend Diva (Sonakshi Sinha) and thus begin his mission of giving Paglapur a place on the map of India. And for this he fabricates a bizarre plan involving the man men, even madder media and lots of aliens (more unrealistic stuff comes your way!) Does Agastya succeeds? Find out as you watch the movie!
As said earlier, Joker lacks logic. There's no answer to why Shreyas talks gibberish, why can't NASA scientists with all their heavy duty gadgets crack Akshay's hoax alien tamasha, which a scientist named Simon Goback identifies with naked eye and which country would send tankers and troops to kill aliens!
Talking about performances, Akshay Kumar, who has borrowed Lagaans Aaamirs wardrobe might not be the apt choice to play a NASA scientist but yes, a NASA scientist who belongs to Paglapur can be played by Akshay Kumar. And the man known for his comic timing does that with elan. However, his acting looks restricted, due to the limitations of the script. His fans will miss his rowdy action in the film. As expected Sonakshi Sinha is as unreal as the aliens. She does no good to the film. She doesnt even add glamour despite strutting her stuff in minis and desi ghagra choli.
Talking about glamour, Chitrangada Singh does her bit in setting the screen afire. Shreyas Talpade with his unexplained gibberish (gala goos goos gab gab) reminds you of Tusshar Kapoor in Golmaal. His performance looks endearing in parts. Supporting cast is good and does its job well, barring a few like Vindu Darasingh and Asraani, who only delivered the mugged up lines. With not even a single important dialogue, Minissha Lamba plays a sexy prop in the film. She represents Indian media, which is mindless according to Shirish.
Musically, besides, Kaafirana and Singh Raja theres nothing exceptional about Jokers music.
Watch Joker only if you dont believe in logic and if you have kids who still find fantasy films fun, else go by 'Joker' tagline that says, sometimes remaining alien is the only option!
