Jose Remulo Sosa Ortiz (born February 17, 1948 in Claveria
, Azcapotzalco, Mexico), or Jose Jose (his stage name) is a Mexican singer. Also known as El Principe de La Cancion (Prince of Song), Jose is known for her interpretations of romantic ballad balada romantica and her extraordinary voice. He is considered one of the artists of Latin America's most famous 1970s and 1980s.
Jose Jose is the eldest son of Jose Sosa Esquivel, famed opera tenor and a classical pianist Margarita Ortiz. He learned the song in the early 50's, participating in her school choir and singing at parties los festivales escolares school. Later, he learned to play guitar while continuing his education. His father will not accept any "popular music" at home, this allows Jose to acquire still a vast musical culture, through sacred music and opera. When his father abandoned the home in March 1963 Jose formed a musical trio with Paco Ortiz and his cousin, his friend Alfredo Benetez. This marks the beginning of his singing career at the age of 15.
After some setbacks, in 1965 he obtained a contract to record his first 45 laps with the record company Orfeen. This disc, which contains the themes Il Mondo (The World) Jimmy Fontana and My Life by Alain Barriere, is featured in the television show sponsored by the same label ("Orfeen a Go-Go"). This issue, where we discover under the pseudonym Jose "Pepe Sosa," marks his real professional debut. The disc is not much promoted and not convincing. Jose began to play bass in another trio of jazz and bossa nova called "Los PEG" (with Gilberto Senchez y Enrique Herrera Partners).
With this group, it begins March 21, 1966 at Club Cafe Semiramis. The suite is made of ups and downs, the group is not engaged continuously in this club. After several passages in other clubs and in 1967 the composer and producer Reben Jose Fuentes remark on the premises of "Apache 14". Thanks to him, he gets a contract with the Mexican subsidiary of the record company RCA Victor (now Sony BMG).
To be effective the beginning, the signing of the contract imposes a condition: ending performances in night club for several months. It's a very tough decision for Jose. These representations are the only source of income for his family and himself.
Its economic situation becomes precarious, but her mother supports opening a small restaurant. It records at RCA Victor Studio de Mexico, plus supervision of composers Ruben Fuentes and Armando Manzanero and released his debut LP in 1969. The music of the album is a combination of boleros and romantic ballads with influences of jazz and boss nova. Although this album contains great songs like Pero te extra, y Cuidado del altar has the tumba, the record company has not done enough promotion, does not regard it as an album commercial enough.
From this album, Jose adopts the stage name "Jose Jose". the first "Jose" to his name and the second for his father who died in 1968, a victim of alcoholism. During the same year he became nationally famous after the launch of its first success: The ship of oblivion (La nave del olvido) song written by Argentinean composer Dino Ramos will have his card.
On 14 March 1970, the theater Ferrocarrilero de Mexico, he represented Mexico at the Song Festival Latin (II Festival Cancian Latina predecessor Festival OTI). He interprets the theme of Roberto Cantoral El sad and Dos Wello Rivas, before a packed house. He is third on the competition behind Claudia Brasil for Brazil with the song Canao de Amor e Paz and Venezuela Mirla representative with the title con los brazos cruzados. But the audience is under the spell of his masterful interpretation of the song El sad that causes the ovation and the admiration of the audience, among whom are famous artists like Maria Angelica, Alberto Vezquez y Marco Antonio Muaiz.
The festival is broadcast worldwide by satellite, El sad immediately becomes an international success, which will allow Jose Jose to make presentations throughout Latin America. El was a sad and significant international impact was published in countries such as Russia, Japan and Israel.
Throughout the decade of 70, Jose Jose continues in the musical tastes of Latin American public with, among other songs, that te quiero Es Vive, Todo es amor and El Principe. He is nicknamed "El Principe de La Cancion" (Prince song) because of the latter title. In April 1970, he moved to Los Angeles to receive his first gold record.
But the early accession to the success and fame do sink into alcoholism. Through his mother, who interned in a detoxification center, he comes out of this difficult period and resumed his activities in 1971. Then he tried to film in Buscando una sonrisa movie recording an album so namesake. He also played in movies with Un Sueade Amor Verenica Castro and La Carrera del Millon with Nadia Milton. Meanwhile, his record company RCA Victor no longer sustains as before so there not renew his contract.
