Juicing Recipes, Herbal Remedies, Homeopathy & Natural Therapies for Individuals with Lymphatic Congestion, Cancer or

I'm a huge fan of juicing- I implement it in my life daily but also make recommendations to my clients and customers to improve their health, balance their pH and delivery key nutrients their bodies need!

As a lymph therapist, I often recommend this juicing drink for my clients who suffer from cancer or severe cases of lympheodema.

Serving: About 6 ounces

1/2 Medium fresh beetroot

1 apple

1 pear

2 small carrots

2 sticks celery

Use this recipe to successfully treat Lymphoedema. Lymph is a clear fluid found in the tissues that normally flows back into the blood circulation system through the lymphatic system. Lymph nodes help to filter and remove waste matter and bacteria from our tissues and so contribute to the successful functioning of the immune system.

Lympoedema is a condition caused by the damage or incorrect functioning of the vessels in the lymphatic system and results in blockages and fluid build up in the affected tissues. This can result in swelling of the affected tissues (oedema means swelling).

Recently, I had a profound conversation with a client who is suffering from ovarian cancer that progressed into her lymph nodes. She had surgery to remove the nodes but as a result, she suffers from a condition we call lymphatic obstruction or lymphedema. This is a chronic and often lifelong situation that requires lymph drainage weekly.

Lymphatic obstruction is a blockage of the lymph nodes -- vessels that drain fluid from tissues throughout the body and allow immune cells to travel where they are needed.

Lymphatic obstruction is also called lymphedema, which means swelling of the lymph passages. Lymph nodes may be enlarged for any reason.

The main symptom is persistent (chronic) swelling, usually of the arm or leg.

Treatment for lymphedema includes:

* Compression (usually with multi-layered bandages)

* lymph drainage

* Range-of-motion exercises

Lymphedema is a chronic disease that usually requires lifelong management. In some cases, lymphedema improves with time. However, some swelling is usually permanent.

Treatment also includes skin care to prevent injuries, infection, and skin breakdown, as well as light exercise and movement programs. Exercise should be carefully designed by a physical therapist. It should help drainage without leading to swelling from overexertion, which could make your condition worse.

There are many causes of lymphatic obstruction, including:

* Infections with parasites such as filariasis

* Injury (trauma)

* Radiation therapy

* Skin infections such as cellulitis (more common in obese patients)

* Surgery

* Tumors

In Western societies, one of the most common causes of lymphedema is removal of the breast (mastectomy) and underarm lymph tissue for breast cancer. This can cause lymphedema of the arm in 10% - 15% of patients. This occurs because the lymphatic drainage of the arm passes through the armpit (axilla), and tissue in the axilla is removed during mastectomy.

Rare forms of lymphedema that are present from birth (congenital) may result from problems in the development of the lymphatic vessels.

Lymphedema is a chronic disease that usually requires lifelong management. In some cases, lymphedema improves with time. However, some swelling is usually permanent.

There are several ways to manage and treat lymphedema naturally.

The treatment involves the use of enzymes, vitamins, herbs and homeopathic compounds in conjunction with standard recognized decongestive therapies. Other goals of this approach include body detoxification, prevention of cellulitis and prevention of fibrosis.

I often recommend the following supplements for lymphedema sufferers:

Diosmin is a bioflavonoid extracted from the peels of citrus fruits. It enhances lymph flow and circulation by increasing the strength and frequency of the lymph vessels' contractions. Take 1,000 mg per day, along with 500 to 1,000 mg of diosmin's cousin, hesperidin, a citrus flavonoid that improves capillary strength.

Bromelain is a natural diuretic and anti-inflammatory in pineapple that research shows may reduce lymphedema swelling. Take 350 to 450 mg twice each day on an empty stomach.

Horse-chestnut extract shows promise in alleviating lymphedema. Its active ingredient, aescin, reinforces connective tissues and vein tone and seals off small pores in your veins, strengthening them and reducing leakage. It also strengthens lymph-vessel walls. Take 250 to 500 mg per day.

Rutin is a bioflavonoid from buckwheat that also reduces swelling and strengthens lymph-vessel walls. Take 400 mg twice daily.

Potassium-rich foods act like diuretics to reduce fluid retention in affected limbs. Good choices include bananas, figs, sweet potatoes, artichokes, raw almonds, and tomato juice.
