The name refers to Julius Caesar, set up in the territory of Friuli and Westkrain a province with the capital Cividale del Friuli. In ancient times included the name "Julian Alps" and the mountains further south, so were the needs in those days, Slovenia and the uplands of Ternowaner Birnbaumer to forest, while today they form separate regions. Glaicers in Julian Alps In the Julian Alps only two glaciers are still present at a relatively low elevation. One is below the peak of Triglav (2864 m) and the other below Visoki Kanin (italian: Monte Canin). (2587 m). Their present areas do not exceed one hectare, thus it is appropriate to name them glacier patches. A remnant of a glacier, below Triglav (slovenian: Triglavski ledenik), is situated on the east site below the summit. In 1946 the Glacier was 15 hectares wide, it now covers an area of less then 1 hectare only, and is predicted to totally disappear within the following few years.About the Author:
