Jumping For Joy!

Yes - I am jumping for joy! I have a couple of secrets to share

. One of my secrets is that exercise has always been a challenge for me. Ugh. I'm a busy Mom. It's easy for me to put that last on my list of things to do. I don't even like the word exercise. I try not to use it with myself or with my clients. I use the word movement. Doesn't that sound better? It gives off an easier "That I can do" connotation. That connotation brings me to my second secret that I want to share. I am excited to share this one. Would you like to incorporate more movement into your schedule that is fun, easy and has numerous health benefits? If so, let me introduce you to Rebounding! Some of you might be familiar with this already. Those of you who have no idea what I am talking about - You are going to thank me.

Rebounding is basically jumping on a mini trampoline. That sounds easy and fun - right? When I first learned about rebounding, we already had a mini trampoline that my two girls liked to jump on. So - no equipment was needed. I just had to get on and have fun. The idea of having to beat myself up in order to have a good work out is out the door. No achy knees, no awkward dance moves, no firm set of rules. So - how do you get started? Start by bouncing and build up to jumping, jogging, twisting and whatever other routines you can come up with. Pop in some music and take turns with the family. This is an exercise for all ages and all fitness levels.

Want to know the health benefits? How much time do you have? Really, there are too many to list, but I'll hit on the most impressive ones.

- As quoted by NASA, exercise on a rebounder or mini trampoline is "the most efficient and effective exercise yet devised by man." Rebounding is 68% more efficient than jogging. (NASA, Journal of Applied Physiology 49(5): 881-887)

- Fights fatigue by strengthening the glandular system to increase the capabilities of the thyroid gland, the pituitary gland and the adrenals.

- Relieves joint, neck, back, and head pain through the increase of circulation and oxygen flow.

- Conditions and strengthens the heart.

- Provides an effective 'no impact' exercise - especially important for those with less mobility or undergoing rehabilitation.

- Lowers elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

- Increases metabolism which assists the body in burning more calories.

- Increases the performance of both the heart and the circulatory system thereby slowing the aging process.

- Stimulates the flow of lymph fluid through the lymphatic system which increases the amount of toxins flushed from the body.

- Enhances digestion, relaxation, sleep patterns, nerve impulses and muscle fiber.

- Reduces blood pressure.

That is a pretty impressive list and that is the short version! So forget the gym membership fees. Go get a mini trampoline and start jumping for joy - and good health!
