Just DO it!!

I was at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting a few nights ago (I am not an alcoholic

but someone close to me is and I was there to better understand their addiction).

A radiantly beautiful woman gave an inspiring talk about her lifetime struggle with addiction - it was a real horror story - and her eventual recovery through getting involved with AA.

After the meeting I asked her what had enabled her to so radically transform her life. She replied, "Being involved with AA."

"Yes," I said, "But what was it about AA that made the difference?"

Her reply was so simple: "I just did what they told me to do"

Over the years since my own recovery from drug addiction and suicidal depression, I've often asked myself "Why me? Why has my life transformed and continues to transform every day in the most miraculous ways while many other people remain stuck in pain and suffering?"

There is nothing special about me, nothing that makes me different from anyone else. In fact, in many ways other people have far more than I do. They have better intellects, more creative talent, more natural people skills than I have.

And yet so many talented people I meet are suffering. Sometimes quietly, living "lives of quiet desperation". In others, their pain is more obvious, as in alcoholics and drug addicts.

The only difference I've found between myself and others is that I listened to my teachers and practised exactly what they told me to do.

During the 10 years it took me to develop the material in Break Out of Your Mind! I studied with several teachers and learned many methods of personal transformation.

Each time I began with a new teacher or discipline I did exactly what they told me to do. Only after I had mastered their teaching and understood it from first principles, did I take the essence from it and make it my own.

So the secret to massively transforming our lives seems to be to listen to our teachers and, in the immortal words of the Nike advert:

JUST DO IT!
