Justice Rehabilitates The Honor And Dignity Of A Russian Citizen
On the 17th of November the Court House of the Tverskoy District issued a decision
on the libel case filed by Vladimir Kokorev against the portal Internet Daily Online, the editorial office of ZAO "Business On-line".
The decision set by the Tribunal establishes that the publisher is to publicly deny all the previously released information and statements, recognizing that such information was not accurate and defamatory towards Vladimir Kokorev, and additionally to pay the plaintiff a compensation for the moral damages.
At the beginning of last October there were a great number of articles in the Russian media dealing with a Russian couple of swindlers who supposedly have stolen 26 million dollars from the bank accounts of the president of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang. According to Kokorev"s lawyers, Kirill Yaschenko and Vitall Chaban, some of the Russian media sources relied on a false news piece published in two articles in the Spanish press, without verifying their sources..
Vladimir Kokorev is a Russian citizen who lives mainly in Spain since the mid nineties and whose company had s several contracts for building and administration of the mercantile vessels with the Government of Equatorial Guinea. Contrary to all the accusations in the press, the money was not subtracted from the accounts of the African president but transferred to the account of Vladimir Kokorev"s company as payment for those contracts.
As a result of the case, numerous Spanish and Russian media sources may become involved in subsequent legal procedures.
