How do we know justice is administered when a judge sentence the criminal to twenty years of prison? What criterion do apply tot the sentence to be just or unjust? What makes twenty years of imprisonment just and not twenty one or nineteen?

Why not thirty or forty years would be a measurement for justice?

Extremely difficult to know. Where do we put the limit and satisfying line for administering justice to this heinous crime?

A thief is sent to imprisonment for few weeks, months or years for his action. Then there is something in his action that the society does not approve of. Is this the moral code of man? What is the criterion of justice in this? Is there injustice committed by the thief? Especially if a handicapped poor and blind man in Bangladesh who steals a piece of bread from the baker, or a banana for a green grocer's shop, to feed his hunger, would this be considered as theft punishable by the law?

The act of theft is considered as such for everybody, rich or poor. It is an immoral thing that its owner has to be punished in order to administer justice.

This is all too well in concrete cases of criminal acts dealt with in criminal law. But if the question of justice is on the social level. Then we have a more difficult position to take. If justice is identified with equity and social equity in a society have to be identified then what the criteria of identification? What are the conditions of such equity? How do we administer equity in a society to achieve justice, social justice that is?

Economic equity is anther level where justice loses its grounds of identification. In the world today some thirty multi-billionaires monopolize the riches and wealth of seven billion individuals. Is this distribution of wealth equitable or inequitable? Who makes the laws? Why should seven billions accept this?

The first reaction of most people in Africa, Asia, Europe and the two Americas ad Australia, especially those who are not Billy Gates the multi-billionaire of the USA ( 50 billions of Dollars worth), while of the Americans live under the level of poverty, Helu the multi-Billionaire of Mexico ( 55 Billions of Dollars worth), where most of the Mexican people, about 75 millions, live under the level of poverty, is to consider this as a down right inequity and terrible injustice.

It would rather be inadequate to provide any exact criterion of justice and equity to any concept of such nature, even though you are a confirmed Socrates.
