Kailasanathar Temple is a perfect example of intricate architecture typical to South India. It is devoted to Lord Shiva and given a unique look by the Pallava king Rayasimha. It was built in part in seventh century AD but completed by Rayasimha's son in the later days. Till today, the originality of the temple has been preserved by the eighth century murals which exist even today.

Kamakshi Amman Temple, one dedicated to Goddess Parvati, is a magnificent temple with huge decorated pillars. In this temple, Goddess Parvati is worshipped as Kamakshi (Goddess of Love).

Ekambaranathar Temple is one of the largest temples in this temple city. This Lord Shiva temple extends to twelve hectares. It is different from others in its thousand pillared mandapam (hall).
