Kanha National Park is situated in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is a tiger reserve, stretched from Mandla to Balaghat districts of the state. The park is divided into two sanctuaries: Hallon and Banjar. Kanha National Park was created on 1st June, 1955.
Kanha is rich in lush sal and dense bamboo forest. It has grassy meadow and riverine. There are a significant number of royal Bengal tigers, leopards, the sloth bears and Barasingha. The park is home to over 600 species flowering plants.
There are several bird species, including storks, teals, pintails, pond herons, egrets, peacock, pea fowl, jungle fowl, spur fowl, partridges, quails, ring doves, spotted parakeets, green pigeons, rock pigeons, cuckoos, papihas, rollers, bee-eater, hoopoes, drongos, warblers, woodpeckers, finches, kingfishers, orioles, owls and fly catchers.
Various animal species are tiger, bison, gaur, sambhar, chital, barasingha, barking deer, black deer, black buck, chousingha, nilgai, mouse deer, sloth deer, jackal fox, porcupine, hyena, jungle cat, python, pea fowl, hare, monkey, goose, tiger and leopard.
There are several nocturnal animals like fox, jungle cat and hyena and reptiles like python, cobra, krait, viper and grass snakes.
The best time for tiger sighting is early morning, and May and June are the best times for reptile sighting.

However, travellers are advised to use all your senses during the park safari and avoid free roaming in deserted and lonely places outside resort camps.
Jabalpur is the best place to get to Kanha National Park. It takes a few hours to reach the park. Jabalpur is well connected by rail, road and air. There is Dummna Airport in the city. Kingfisher Airlines and Indian operate direct flights from New Delhi.
The best time to visit Kanha is from October 15th to June 30th. There is always a midday break at that time there is a lunch break.
