World No 1 Martin Kaymer is indebted to the organisers of this week's Transitions Championship - and isn't hiding his feelings about it.
"I'm not a member of the PGA Tour, so it was nice to get an invitation here this week," Kaymer told the golfing media on the eve of Thursday's tee-off at the Innsbruck Resort's Copperhead championship course in Florida.
"It was important to play a few more Ping K15 Irons before the Masters. I'm not playing Houston and I'm not playing Bay Hill, so I'm very happy to be here this week."
Kaymer, the reigning US PGA Champion, opened in style with rounds of 66 and 70 last week at Doral, but had a disappointing weekend with two rounds 74, to fall out of the chasing pack and finish in 24th place and he his hoping to shrug away that disappointment with a better performance this week.
Then he will be off to his winter base in dry Arizona to sharpen his game and focus his Ping K15 Irons before joining his father and brother in Augusta for the Masters.
"I don't want to play the week before Augusta this year. I did that for the last three years and I haven't played well I needed to change things this time out," Kaymer added.
With nine international victories in no time at all, Kaymer has vaulted into the upper echelon of world golf world.
He has also established himself as a man of mult-Major potential for besides winning the 2010 PGA championship, he finished tied for seventh at last year's Open Championship after tying for Ping K15 Irons at the US Open.
In spite of all this, however, he isn't expecting to attract huge galleries, either this week, or at the Masters.
"Under the radar? Maybe a little bit," Kaymer conceded when answering a question .
"I don't want to play the week before Augusta this year. I did that for the last three years and I haven't played well I needed to change things this time out," Kaymer added.
