Keep An Eye On Your Blood Pressure

Overview of blood pressure

Overview of blood pressure

Blood pressure is the measure of the force of blood pushing against blood vessel walls as the heart pumps blood. The heart pumps blood into the arteries or blood vessels, which carry the blood throughout the body.

There are two blood pressure conditions, namely, high blood pressure and low blood pressure.

Among these two, high blood pressure is more dangerous and can cause severe heart related disorders.

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is dangerous because it makes the heart work harder to pump blood to the body and contributes to hardening of the arteries, and leads to the development of heart failure.

A blood pressure reading has a top number and bottom number. The ranges are:

Normal: Less than 120 over 80 (120/80)

Pre hypertension: 120-139 over 80-89

Stage 1 high blood pressure: 140-159 over 90-99

Stage 2 high blood pressure: 160 and above over 100 and above

What are the causes of high blood pressure or hypertension?

There are several factors and conditions that play a role in the development of high blood pressure, that include:

Smoking

Being overweight or obesity

Lack of physical activity

Too much salt in the diet

Too much alcohol consumption

Stress

Older age

Genetics

Family history of high blood pressure

Chronic kidney disease

Adrenal and thyroid disorders

Salt is considered to be one among the highest contributors of high blood pressure. Consumption of higher amount of salt than what is necessary is harmful to health.

What are the noticeable symptoms of hypertension or high blood pressure?

Most people with high blood pressure will not experience any symptoms until levels reach about 180/110 mmHg. When symptoms do appear, they typically include:

Headache - usually, this will last for several days;

nausea and vomiting;

Discomfort in the stomach with an urge to vomit;

Vomiting - less common than just nausea;

Dizziness - Lightheadedness, unsteadiness, and vertigo;

Blurred or double vision;

Bleeding from nose.

Palpitation- irregular and forceful bleeding of heart

Hypertension is of two types. They are- Essential hypertension and secondary hypertension.

ESSENTIAL HYPERTENSION

The essential hypertension remains mysterious. When the underlying cause of hypertension cannot be determined it is called essential hypertension.The majorities of all people with high blood pressure are "salt sensitive," meaning that anything more than the minimal bodily need for salt is too much for them and increases their blood pressure. Other factors that can trigger the risk of having essential hypertension include obesity; diabetes; stress; insufficient intake of potassium, calcium, and magnesium; lack of physical activity; and chronic alcohol consumption.

SECONDARY HYPERTENSION

When a direct and known cause for high blood pressure can be identified, the condition is described as secondary hypertension. Among the known causes of secondary hypertension, kidney disease ranks highest. Hypertension can also be raised by tumors or other abnormalities that cause the adrenal glands to secrete excess amounts of the hormones that increase blood pressure. Birth control pills especially those containing estrogen -- and pregnancy can boost blood pressure, as can medications that constrict blood vessels.

If you are suffering from blood pressure related disease then contact a blood pressure specialist in Delhi. If you notice the symptoms of hypertension or if you are already a patient of hypertension, then contact a good hypertension specialist in Delhi.
