Keep Chewing…and Smiling… and Living! With Porcelain Crowns

Life is hard on your smile even when you take good care of your teeth

. Here at Modesto Smiles, even our regular patients sometimes come to us with broken, cracked or damaged teeth. If you think about how much we use our teeth and what stress they are put under, it's amazing any of us have teeth at all! The average human biting force is about 200 pounds of pressure! Our patients who clench or grind place that kind of force on their teeth all the time and this can cause a tremendous amount of damage. But there are lots of other factors that can affect the strength and shape of teeth as well. When we consume acidic foods or drinks such as sodas, fail to brush as well as we should or even when we become stressed, enamel is damaged which can eventually lead to severe damage of the tooth.

If you do find yourself with a broken, fractured or otherwise damaged tooth, or if you have tooth crumbling under an old filling, come talk to us right away. We have several solutions for restoration and repair. Crowns are one of our most reliable restorations because crowns also provide the most support and coverage for a broken tooth. Crowns may be used to attach a bridge, complete a dental implant, cover discolored or misshapen teeth, or protect a particularly weak tooth from damage. We also use crowns to cover and protect a tooth that requires a root canal.

When created by a master ceramicist at a reputable lab, porcelain crowns look feel and function just like natural teeth. Your custom created porcelain teeth crown will be closely matched to the shade of your own teeth for a beautiful, subtle solution.

You may have seen or even have an old crown that just doesn't look right in the smile. Sometimes they are opaque or seem to be the wrong shade. Sometimes they have a dark, ugly line at the gum. Our crowns are different. Made of pure porcelain, our crowns are never fused to metal. This makes our crowns difficult to distinguish from your other teeth because they transmit light the way a natural tooth does.

Placing the crown is a two-visit process. The first visit is to prepare the tooth and take molds for the creating of the crown. The crown is placed on the second visit. It's that easy!

For more information, call Modesto Smiles and ask how crowns from Dr. Emil Villaroman can help you.
