Throughout the country there are drivers that find they do not have enough space in their driveway to accommodate the number of cars that they own

. On a national average Americans own two cars per household, but there are individuals that have three or four automobiles while other families share one car between several drivers. While America has the lowest number of drivers per car, the majority of garages attached to houses only have room for two vehicles at the most. In many households the garage is a storage area for all of the excess clutter and belongings that have not found a space inside the house.

With the limited room to protect an automobile and the number of cars per household being so great, some families have to find an alternative place to park their vehicle. While a garage provides shelter from the elements and allows the owner to safely lock up their car, the limited space leaves a number of personal vehicles out in the rain. Even when working, people park their cars outdoors where they are exposed to the constant weather conditions that can range from intense sunlight to heavy snowfall. With all of the different conditions that a car is subjected to the paint can fade, as will the dashboard and visors. Without proper coverage from the elements a car can be aged and worn down before its time.

To help resolve the overcrowding in the garage and provide adequate shelter for a vehicle, homeowners across the country are installing a carport over the driveway or making an addition to their property that includes a space to park under. Even at some office buildings and industrial parks where an owner has invested in a luxury automobile, the use of a carport provides protection from the sun, wind and rain. When the cars are parked outside all day and exposed to the constant bombardment of the weather a carport can provide enough protection to keep the paint from fading and help any vehicle stay looking its best.

While America's garages remain filled with things that are too valuable to throw away, there are some people that are caring for their vehicles that will not fit alongside all of the camping gear and other miscellaneous paraphernalia.
