Keep Your Halloween Safe #2 Tricks

Halloween is here, and we'd like to keep you safe! In the first article

, we talked about Haunted Houses and the dangers of personal injury. In this article, we'll look into the tricks of trick-or-treating; Halloween pranking can be a definite concern for parents and homeowners. Some tricks are fun and silly, but some can be malicious and take things too far.

Generally middle schoolers and high schoolers who are not under adult supervision will take the idea of tricking too far to pranking. Smashing jack-o-laterns,TPing yards and throwing eggs are all crude Halloween pranks. As unpleasant as these tricks are, usually no one gets hurt. In the event that someone gets harmed from an intentionally malicious act, however, parents can be sued for the actions of their children. To remain safe this holiday season, its best to protect yourself from these pranksters to begin with.

Clean up It's fun to keep the jack-o-laterns and decorations outside the night of Halloween, but in reality, you're leaving yourself a target for pranksters. Make sure you clean up any potentially messy or hazardous decorations the night of Halloween, so there's no temptation for pranks.

Keep your house well-lit Keeping your house well-lit can keep the pranks away much more than you would think. Kids especially don't want to get caught, because they still live with their parents and know the consequences at home may be worse than a backseat ride in a cop car. If you plan on being out for the night, leave every light on in the house, it may be a little expensive, but it will save you the trouble of cleaning up eggs and toilet paper in the morning.

Talk to your local police The police are employed to protect the citizens, especially around Halloween, when the crime rates spike. Plan ahead and contact your local police station with your concerns. Having a cop patrol your neighborhood is one of the best ways to stay safe on Halloween.

Consider a Neighborhood Watch If you belong to a close-knit neighborhood, you may want to create a watch plan for Halloween. Make sure all their lights are on and their yards are well-lit. Very few people will mess with a neighborhood that's completely lit up. Watch out for your neighbor's yards and even make a list of telephone numbers for the neighborhood, so you can call your neighbor quickly in case of pranksters.
