Keep Your Used Bmw Purring With Winter Service
As winter hints that it's on its way, smart used BMW owners are already making plans to prepare their cars for rain
, sleet, snow, and freezing temperatures are you? Unless you recently purchased a certified BMW that's already had its winter BMW service completed, it's time to call your local BMW dealer.
What type of BMW service should you expect to have performed on your used BMW? While your dealer will recommend options specific to your car, its service history, and current conditions, you can expect at least the following items to be checked: battery, coolant, belts and hoses, and tires.
BMW battery service is necessary to ensure that your used BMW has a battery ready to withstand cold temperatures. Batteries should be load tested before winter and their terminals and cables cleaned and inspected. With a strong battery, your certified BMW should have plenty of power to start in cold temperatures as well as power luxuries such as heated seats.
Ask the technician at your local BMW service centre to check your car's coolant and engine oil, especially if you purchased your certified BMW from a dealer located in a warmer climate. Barrie's winter temperatures may require a coolant flush and replacement with a more capable anti-freeze. In addition, the engine oil may need to be replaced with oil with viscosity suitable for cold climates.
Most BMW service technicians check hoses and belts as a matter of routine. Any worn, cracked, or leaking hoses should be promptly replaced.
Next, have the BMW service technician inspect your car's tires. Are they suitable for snow and ice? Is the tread still good? Are they properly inflated? If necessary, consider investing in a new set of all-weather or snow tires.
Another important consideration involves the condition of your car's lighting system. With winter comes short days and long nights in Canada. The entire lighting system should be checked and your headlamps may need to be adjusted.
Depending on the age and model of your used BMW, it may come equipped with Condition Based Service (CBS). CBS constantly monitors oil levels and wear and tear on many of your car's components. This intelligent technology can give you the heads up that it's time to schedule BMW service. However, don't let a lack of indicators stop you from scheduling winter service for your used BMW. Not only will your BMW service technician check all of the above, other items such as wiper blades, washer fluid, and cooling water levels will be checked and addressed as needed.
In addition, ask your BMW service technician about glass treatments such as a water repellant or an anti-fog treatment for your car's windshield. Treatments such as these help repel water, snow, and ice when the car is parked and when it's in motion. Ice and snow removal is also easier.
It's not too early to schedule winter BMW service for your used BMW. The sooner you prepare your car for winter, the sooner you can rest easy and enjoy the ride.
