Keeping A Bacteria Free Area: Completely Sanitizing Your Kitchen

Did you know that your kitchen can possibly be dirtier than your toilet

? Your kitchen sink, countertops, sponge and cutting boards are obvious breeding grounds of disease-causing bacteria if not cleaned properly. Save your family from illnesses brought by unsanitary food handling and preparation by following these tips that will make your kitchen spotless.

Washing your hands should be a habit, not just before and after eating but also before and after preparing meals. The sure way to kill bacteria is to wash your hands for two to three minutes with antibacterial hand soap. Clean between your fingers and nails to get rid of residue from handling raw ingredients that may be infested with harmful microorganisms.

Germs and bacteria cannot be eliminated with just soap and water. Your kitchen is prone to these things because of raw meat, fish and vegetables that you bring in to wash in your sink and prepare on your countertop. So, invest in kitchen cleansers with elements that are strong enough to kill germs but safe to use in the kitchen. Use it to scrub off the sink, countertop and every corner of the kitchen with possible bacteria build-up.

Don't forget to include the kitchen utensils especially cutting boards in your bacteria-busting mission. Aside from having a clean place to prepare food, sanitizing the materials you use to prepare them is important as well. Wash these items in a mixture of hot water and antibacterial solution or bleach for a couple of minutes then rinse off with cold water. Doing this will kill harmful bacteria in no time!

It's important to have several dry dish rags in your kitchen. One should be used solely for drying off clean dishes and kitchen utensils, and another for wiping countertops. This will prevent germs from transferring from one place to another. Also make sure that you sanitize the dish rags and wash them regularly with antibacterial detergent.

Sponges are also exposed to germs and bacterial contamination. The best way to prevent this is to clean your sponge every time after using it. Heat can kill germs and you can use your microwave to do the trick. Just pop the moist sponge in for two minutes. Be careful now, coz the sponge will surely be hot but definitely, bacteria-free!
