Increasing traffic means that young children need more precautions to be seen and to be safe near roads. High visibility clothing with its bright florescent colours and reflective areas mean a driver is more likely to see the child.

More schools are arranging what they call "walking buses" this is where a group of children are accompanied by volunteers and walked in a group to their local school. The benefits of this are the children are healthier and more sociable. This also reduces parking problems around school gates, it also teaches the children about road safety and more aware of their environment. High visibility clothing is ideal in these situations to make sure the children and volunteers are seen.

They are ideal for schools operating a walking bus scheme, the volunteers and children could be wearing high visibility reflective vests with the school logo on. This would promote the school to the local community and passers-by. Local companies could sponsor schools by buying high visibility clothing in exchange for a small company logo on them.

Many UK school children wear dark uniforms and these can be hard to see when it's raining or when the daylight is fading. Winter is good example of when highly visible clothing is needed, the evenings are getting darker earlier and children may be coming back from school in the dark. There doesn't have to be a huge expense, a reflective band, sticker, rucksack or even reflective keyring is a great solution to making pre brought clothing highly visible.
