Keeping It Clean - Sexual Purity In a Sex Charged Culture
Wearing the right clothes, saying the right things, listening to the right bands, the pressure for kids to fit in is immense. While the previously listed demands may not seem all that intimidating, there is one that is often left unsaid, and unfortunately is quick becoming the most important of them all. Sex. Lets be honest, it's the last thing we want to worry about when dropping our kids off at a party, friends house, or even school, but it's quick becoming a social norm for teens in today's society. We are watching these younger generations grow up in a time of great change. A time where information via picture and video spread faster than ever before. While this can often be argued as a great resource, this mass media universe can easily become a roadblock for parents concerned about censoring their children from the sex charged culture we are living in. The truth of the matter is that in today's society, it is impossible to block out everything sex related that our children may hear about or see. Instead of frantically trying to play cover up, we must accept what we cannot change, and instead prepare them for the challenges that lay ahead. Being honest with our children about the importance of sexual purity is always the best option. Remember to come from a place of understanding and concern, rather than confrontational and intrusive. Explain to them the importance of intimacy. This can be a hard one for parents to talk about. It is okay to feel awkward and nervous. It comes with the territory. Be open with your children.
