Now that you have planned your exciting trip to an exciting destination, it is time to book your travel insurance. You will not have to worry about the cost of medical treatment should someone fall ill or become injured. With a comprehensive package, you will feel secure that in the case you need some sort of medical attention, it will be available to you.
Travel insurance is always better than having to come home to thousands of dollars in unpaid doctors bills from a foreign hospital, so a firm rule to go by is if you cannot afford travel insurance, then you really cannot afford to go on holiday (especially if you are going overseas).
Staying Healthy On Holiday With Vaccinations
Once you have booked your holiday, visit your family doctor. Some countries require vaccinations, while others only recommend them. You will have to show proof of your vaccinations for those countries that require them.
If the vaccinations are going to be optional, it is a good idea that you take this extra precaution to avoid any unnecessary illness.
What To Pack To Keep Your Family Healthy
Always take a small first-aid kit just in case. You never know where you will be when someone gets hurt. By being prepared with this kit, you will be able to keep infections at bay and prevent a scratch from turning into something far worse.
You can also keep your family medicine and prescription refills in the kit so that you can find them quickly and easily. You should pack disinfectant, band aids, wraps, tropical insect repellant and topical creams for sore muscles. You can also purchase a pre-packed first-aid kit before from a local pharmacy.
Avoiding The Sun
Many families go away on holidays to get some sunshine. However, many families then run into the trouble of sunstroke. You should always carry a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 or above and remember when you need to reapply it to your children.
You may also want to consider being out in the sun during the 'off peak' sun hours, in the early morning or late afternoon. Make sure you stay out of the suns way during midday where the sun is at its highest and strongest point. A nasty sunburn can ruin a holiday and be extremely harmful in the long run.
