Keeping your family safe from fire is one of your topmost concerns as the head of the family

. You would want to do everything you can to ensure that no harm gets to them. This includes the hazards the come with a fire accident. As you probably know, fire accidents are some of the leading causes of damage to properties, injuries to people, and even death. To keep your family safe at all times, here are some of the most important things you should do.

1.Install fire equipment in your home.

From smoke alarms to fire blankets to extinguishersyou should have all the basic equipment installed in your home to ensure utmost protection for your family. Smoke alarms work to detect fire and inform your family about its occurrence so they can escape the burning area immediately. Extinguishers and blankets are utilized for putting out small incipient fires. Blankets can also be used for wrapping around the body to protect oneself during escape.

2.Increase safety awareness in your family.

It is not enough that your house is fully equipped with fire safety devices. It is a must to educate all the members of your family about all the important facets of fire safety including fire prevention, emergency procedures, escape planning, fire hazards, and many more. Older kids can be taught to use an extinguisher. Teach your kids to pull the safety pin, aim the nozzle at the base of the flames, squeeze the lever gently, and make a sweeping motion from side to side to extinguish the flames completely. Moreover, teach your family all the fire prevention measures so that everyone can do his/her bit in preventing fires from breaking out in your house.

3.Create an easy-to-follow escape plan.

Make a comprehensive escape route that will detail at least two major exit routes and one minor exit route per level of the house. All these routes should be easily accessible. Post the sketches in places where your family can easily see them. See to it that it is easy enough for even little kids to understand.

4.Conduct fire drills.

Aside from the escape plan, you should also be able to conduct fire drills regularly to practice your family into getting out of a burning house immediately. Make the drill as a surprise so you would gauge more effectively your familys response to fire.

5.Do a risk assessment in your home

Observe your home inside and out. Determine if there are fire hazards present in every part of the house. Work with the whole family to formulate ways to reduce or eliminate these risks.

You love your family so much and you know that you will be devastated if something bad happens to any of them. In order for you to prevent this scenario from happening, be sure to follow the tips mentioned above. Your family will be eternally grateful to your for taking utmost care of them.
