Keeping your home organized can be difficult, especially if you are very busy
. When you do make an effort to be organized you should make sure that you make the most out of your time.
Having an organized home will save you time and will give you the peace of mind that you deserve. You can make an organized home an escape from the havoc of the outside world.
First, you can start with your living room. Often times there are a lot of people spending time in the living room.
Because the living room is a high traffic area you may begin to notice that trash will accumulate. If you notice that you are continually picking up trash from the living room add a trash can to the room.
Many living rooms do not have trash cans because it seems like it would be unsightly. If you do some shopping you will more than likely be able to find a wastebasket that fits the decor of your living room.
Because the trash can will be out in a high traffic area you want to make sure that it does not start to smell up the room. Empty it often if you know that people are throwing food into the wastebasket.
If you are worried about a smell coming from the wastebasket you can search for one that has a lid and only use deodorizing bags. This will eliminate the smell that you are worried about.
Second, you want to make sure that the flat surfaces in the room are kept cutter-free. You should not let magazines, books or papers have a place on the flat surfaces in the room.
You can put papers that are necessary to keep in a drawer file. For most homes you should not need more than two drawers to keep all of your papers inside.
The coffee table is usually the easiest place for family members to put down their loose papers. Meet with you family and set up a system so that everyone knows where their papers belong.
Third, a very unsightly source of disorganization can come in the form of cords. With all of the television, surround sound, video game and other technology systems we have in our living rooms it is easy to become inundated with cords.
There are many different options that you have for keeping the cord situation under control. You can use a cable caddy or even a cable yoyo.
Both of these contraptions will conceal your cords into a single cord. You will be able to keep your cords from getting tangled as well.
Fourth, a very common problem that families run into is the overwhelming waves of toys. If you feel like toys are inundating your family room you have to take control.
You should designate one corner to be the toy corner. This way all of the toys will have a place and you can teach your children to pick up after they are done playing.
A small bookshelf against an unused wall can be a perfect place for your child to store his or her toys. Having rolling bins is another great way to organize your child's toys.
Children usually prefer the rolling bins because it gives them the ability to move their toys to a new location. Make sure they understand that they are welcome to move the toys to play but that the toys need to be returned to their spot when playtime is over.
Utilize all of the space in your living room. A sixth way that you can organize is by utilizing your coffee table.
You should look into purchasing a coffee table that has storage underneath, if you do not already have one that is able to store. This way you can put coasters, remote controls and even magazines away.
With more drawers also comes the temptation to stuff. Make sure that the drawers are cleaned out regularly.
If you do not clean the drawers out regularly they may become a breeding ground for junk to accumulate. Do not let your coffee table become a source of disorganization.
Seventh, games can be another source of disorganization. If your family enjoys playing games together you should look for a storage unit for your games.
If your games have a specific spot you will be able to put the games away right after you are done playing. This way your games will stay as a source of fun rather than a source of disorganization.
