Keeping the Momentum going on your Body Quest

One of the hardest things when you're trying to change something

, is keeping the momentum going. Whether you are trying to change your eating habits and stick to healthy options or you are trying to incorporate regular exercise into your timetable. You will more than likely start off with gusto and real motivation to succeed, every time you make the right food choice or manage to go the gym you can feel a sense of achievement and maybe even a little smug.

This sense of euphoria can be short lived if you have set your aims to high. If you believe as a beginner you can do a 5K run in 16minutes or that you can lose 2 stone within the first fortnight you are setting unrealistic goals. Clearly I have taken this to an extreme though the point is still valid. When you start out on a new regime give yourself a fighting chance by making your aspirations realistic. Small regular changes can really have a massive impact on achieving your desires and will be far more sustainable. You may decide you are going to walk for 20 minutes 3 times a week in the first fortnight and then build up to a 10 minute jog and a 10 minute walk 3 times a week for the next fortnight. Once you have made your decision and written it down all you need to do is stick to it.

Much of your ability keep to the momentum of achieving your goals comes from the way you talk to yourself. Words can be extremely powerful in your quest to develop yourself. Using words such as "might" or "I will do that tomorrow" or "I am trying to lose improve my fitness" are all guaranteed to lead to failure as they are weak statements and perceived by your mind as half hearted and therefore not really required, which is the last thing you need. Being positive with your internal chats will have fantastic results, using empowering language can make all the difference. "I am going to workout today at 3 0'clock" instead of "I am trying to workout later today" will ensure your continued success. Hold yourself to task and make sure you do achieve your daily goals, the more regularily you do it, the easier it becomes, eventually becoming part of your everyday life.

Self-doubt can also play a part in hampering your ability to continue to lose weight or follow an exercise program. Your thoughts can be very damaging and are mainly due to your limited beliefs of your own ability. Thoughts like "I can't keep this up" or "I will never be able to continue to exercise every week" will ultimately become self-fulfilling prophecies. Every time you have these self-doubting thoughts, be aware and change it to a positive thought of how much you have achieved so far and how great you are already feeling with your progress.
