Keggers - Why They Are Green For The Earth

Recycling your garbage can be a pain in the ass

. What was once a trash can in the kitchen has multiplied into dozens of different bins:

One for the organic materials

Another for bottles

That thing you put paper products into

The can for cans

A plastic container for plastics

Something where you discard the hair you collected from the Flowbee

Baggies full of monkey crap

Skeletons

Its gotten crazy. What was once a nice walk-in closet is now your very own landfill. There is one green thing you can adopt if youre a beer drinker. The all-knowing, all-powerful keg.

And theyre Green? Why?

Quite simply, you probably dont own it. When its empty, it gets refilled. If you actually purchase one and swear off the stuff, it makes a nice base for a table.

Heading back to around 1620, those beer guzzlers aboard the Mayflower had to change course and anchor-down on Plymouth Rock. The reason: They ran out of brewski. They had kegs on board only they called them barrels.

Then there are the packagers of IPA. India Pale Ale wasnt made in Delhi. It was produced in Merry ol Whatever in Europe. The easiest way to make the trip was to keg the brew. The upper castes of that Far Eastern country preferred it in bottles, so once it arrived in that foreign land, entrepreneurs saw the opportunity and capped the beer in glass containers.

A Change has Come

The average baby boomer, when they could score a beer, had a limited choice to around 3-or-4 taps the barmaid could pull upon. In the 21st century, there are some beer joints that can yank and handle for up to 100 different kegs. Most places modestly stay around the 30 variety range. That includes Big Beer offerings and craft-style suds.

As the world becomes more-and-more conscious of what we dump in our local crap holes, keg usage is bound to increase. Its nice to say to your friends, Im doing my part to save the planet by guzzling down a cold one in a frosty glass that comes right from the cows udder.

As for your personal landfill space at the house, while it does signify a major pain in the patokis, its a good thing. Especially if you have kids. Its just another way for them to earn their allowance.
