The old adage is true: if you dont have your health
, you dont have anything.
If youre not feeling well, you wont be able to give your best to your family, your business, or your community. If your body is not operating at optimal levels, you wont think clearly. You wont be able to take advantage of situations as they arise, and you wont be able to see potential problems looming on the horizon.
Youll be too busy thinking about how lousy you feel.
The good news is that no matter what shape youre in right now, it can get better. The body is hardwired for healing itself. Given just a little encouragement and care, your body can fix just about anything thats wrong with it. Give it some good food, good exercise, and good rest and youll feel better in no time.
But what constitutes good food? Good food - food thats good for you - doesnt come in a box, or a bag from McDonalds. Good food is organic veggies and whole fruit, food that hasnt had the nutrition processed out of it. Ever hear of green smoothies? Theyre vegetables and fruit blended together into one delicious drink. You wont even know youre getting your five servings of greens per day when you incorporate green smoothies into your diet.
Good exercise gets your heart rate up and keeps it up for at least 30 minutes. Good exercise develops your lean muscle tissue, and lean muscle tissue burns fat. Try working all your muscle groups at least two times a week. Find something you enjoy doing and make it part of your daily regime. Taking care of yourself should be your number one priority. Dont wait to get sick to discover how important your health is.
Good rest is essential to health. Your body repairs itself during sleep, so make sure youre getting as many Zs as your body needs. Your bedroom should be a sanctuary. Never take your computer to bed with you, and dont watch TV, especially the news or violent movies. You go to bed to sleep, to heal your body, and rejuvenate for the coming day, not to catch up on the latest news from Afghanistan.
One important element to good rest is letting go of the stress of the day. One technique is to lie in bed and relax your muscles. Start at your feet and feel all the tension drain out of your toes, your ankles, your knees. Work your way up to the head, relaxing all the muscles as you go. Pay special attention to areas that dont seem to relax and give them a mental massage. If stressful thoughts come to you during this process, put them in balloons and send them off into the night sky. Just let them go.
Good food, good exercise, and good rest are simple but powerful keys to good health. And when youve got good health, the world is full of possibilities.
