Kevin Nealon Tickets: First Television Comedian

The Comedian and actor Kevin Nealon started out as weekend anchor on Saturday Night

Live before he graduated as a actor and comedian in his own right.

Whether you're old and from a generation that could remember Kevin in his "Hans and Franz" sketches on Saturday Night Live, or you're just young and remember him in the Showtime series Weeds as Councilman Doug Wilson, surely you'll like him.

The start up of Nealon in comedy was in the 1970s, and was picked up by SNL in 1987 when his friend Dana Carvey recommended him to producer Lorne Michaels. After nine seasons in SNL, he moved on to a successful career in TV and movies.

All through his career, he was lucky to play with people who never take themselves too seriously. His stand-up routine is like his characters: mocking, cheerful and amiable. His jokes touch on simple and agreeable, light-hearted themes, such as his fear of chimpanzees ("They rip your jaw off so you can't bite them, and then they go for your testicles, I guess so you can't rape them.")

When you're lucky to see Nealon performing, it's a rare opportunity to be entertained by an icon of television and movies, and well-worth the trip to Ogden-and the frostbite you're sure to get standing in line to get those coveted front-row tables.

In one of his recent interviews with Reuters, Nealon said "For me, it's a good place to try one-liners here and there," the "Weeds" star and "Saturday Night Live" and "Depending on how many people retweet it, I'll know if it's good or not." He added.

And he made many comic statement, for instance when he saw Farrah Fawcett on the cover of a recent issue of Vanity Fair, he wrote, "She's so lucky!"

By the time he takes the stage at comedy clubs, he has a pretty good idea how the jokes will go across, although often the funny "area" will need to be fleshed out.

To promote his standup DVD, Nealon performed last week in The los Angeles club where he started out in the 1970s as a bartender, it's at the Melrose Improv. The marketing graduate did it with a little help from another social-networking site that organizes shows around the country.

"I never stopped doing standup, but I was never able to give it that full blast, like a Dane Cook would or a Russell Peters," he said, referring to two of the big standups of the moment. "One of the reasons I did the DVD special is to kind of be included in that group." Nealon said.

The comedian still has the ardour, and cites George Lopez as an example of someone who kept busy in film and television, but kept "pummeling that standup arena."
