Key Strategies in Improving Your English Grammar

Make sure that the verb tenses in your sentences match. If the subject in your sentence is under a present tense, then the verb must be the same as well. You can also make use of past tenses depending on your sentence construction. Verb tenses are very important in improving your English grammar speaking and writing skills.

Figure out if the subject in your sentence is singular or plural. Take note that there is a big difference between using singular and plural subjects in constructing a sentence. Words such as "We're", "Are", "Don't" and "Aren't" are called plural subjects. For example, the sentence "It don't work" must be written as "They don't work" instead.

Remove the unnecessary extra words such as "I" or "Me" when you're deciding on the subject of the sentence to use. For example, the sentence "Finn went out with Rachel and me" is considered as wordy sentence. Shorten your sentence construction by phrasing it to "Finn went with me" if you intend to repeat the direct words you provided before the "Me" word.

Avoid using sentences with "Double Negatives". The sentence "I am not singing to nobody in this house" is an example of a Double Negative. Use the sentence "I am not singing to anyone" instead.

For you to be able to improve your English grammar speaking and writing skills effectively, you must know how to use the words "Gone" and "Went" correctly. Instead of using the sentence "I have went to the book store earlier", better use "I should have gone to the bookstore".

Know the difference between using the words "lose" and "loose" when constructing a sentence. The "lose" and "loose" words are just few of the commonly confused words indicating different meanings. The word "loose" refers to something which is necessarily not right or proper while "lose" means being defeated or not having the possession of a certain subject matter or object. When you're going to construct a sentence using these words for example, you must have a clear definition of the words first for you to avoid confusing sentence construction or English grammar.

When you're going to construct a sentence to indicate a time, you must remember that there is no "12:00 PM" or "12:00 AM". The AM is an abbreviation of "Anti Meridiem" which means "Before Noon" and PM or "Post Meridiem" which means "After Noon". When you're going to use the "12:00" in constructing a sentence, always use the words "Noon" or "Midnight" to indicate the exact time you are referring to.

You must be aware of when to balance your sentence construction and when to flatter. For example, if you're going to use the words "Complementary" and "Complimentary", make sure you know the difference of both words first for you to be able to avoid typographical errors in your English grammar. Having awareness in balancing your sentence construction properly will help you improve your skills in speaking and writing English.
